Hello.
I’ve known you by reputation for years,
Stunning sapphire channels and glittering granite islands.
You lured legendary navigators, whiskey runners, and gilded guests.
Reputed to harbor an elusive world record muskie,
You enticed my only child into your mystic realm.
You offer him the promise of a lifelong passion fulfilled
On the 40 acre-shoal, his destined place in your world.
You gratify my husband’s half century fascination with the lunge,
Providing him a haven and escape from care under your spell.
You christened my granddaughters as toddlers on a sandy shoreline.
Now you bounce them over your rollicking waves and share your perch.
When I first gazed upon your silvery countenance a shiver prickled my body,
Never did I believe you and I would meet face to face.
Just a quick look, a narrow view, yet your grandeur emanated.
I celebrated my granddaughter’s birth on your Bateau Channel.
I mourned death and loss from the shores of Howe Island.
We formed a bond in joy and comfort.
I pledge my future to you as a friend and kindred spirit.
Your role in my life will be a delight to discover.
River, I am honored to make your acquaintance.
