Taste the 1000 Islands… Through Videos!

It was W.C. Fields who said, “I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food!”

There are more than a dozen winemakers, brewers and distillers in the region, on both sides of the border.  They are all making a name for themselves in the Thousand Islands.  Now, thanks to the support of the New York State Tourism Board, Taste 1000 Islands have created a video series interviewing these enterprises.

In addition, Taste 1000 Islands, has an enhanced social media presence, trying to make many more residents, and visitors to the region, aware of the extent of our many and varied culinary establishments.  TI Life is pleased to present these impressive media clips!

So what to do next?  Pour your favourite beverage, sit back and view the following…

Thousand Islands Winery® is the largest farm winery in Northern New York State and is located along the majestic St. Lawrence River on a historic forty-acre farmstead established in 1836. The Winery began its operations in 2002 with the purchase of the farm by Steve Conaway and his wife Erika. The primary grape varieties being planted in the Thousand Islands Region include Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, Marquette and La Crescent, which were developed by the University of Minnesota. The development of these cold-hardy grapes is the very reason we now enjoy the benefits of the ever-expanding Northern New York wine region.

The Grindstone Island Winery draws inspiration from the fertility of the land, the commitment of the people who work it, and the spirit of those who enjoy its fruits. Situated in the heart of the Thousand Islands region of upstate New York, our winery embraces the island's rich agrarian history. The St. Lawrence River creates an ideal microclimate, for growing wine grape varieties, unique to this region. Our annual harvest has become a vibrant community event, bringing together many who share a passion for traditional wine making and life on The River.

The Randazzo family, of Coyote Moon Vineyards, handcrafts each award-winning wine at their vineyard located in the heart of the Thousand Islands in Clayton, New York. Phil Randazzo, patriarch of the family-owned and operated winery, is a self-taught winemaker. Phil and his wife Mary, along with their children, Tony and Kristina, and daughter-in-law Lori, carefully create each bottle of Coyote Moon’s award-winning wine. At Coyote Moon Vineyards, winemaking is not a passion, it’s an obsession and it starts from the ground up. The family carefully pays attention to details; it is the little things that make award-winning wine. Everything from the pruning, to fruit selection, through hand harvesting, to label printing is done with purpose and passion. With such attention to detail, Coyote Moon Vineyards has quickly become one of New York’s most award-winning wineries.

A micro-climate of moist air exists along the 1000 Islands thanks to the crystal clear fresh waters of the St. Lawrence River and eastern Lake Ontario. Combined with fertile land shaped by four distinct and dramatic seasons, it creates a climate ripe for growing high-quality craft beverage ingredients.
