Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties have several State Parks located in the Thousand Islands region.  Please visit their web site or call for more information.

Jefferson County

Burnham Point State Park : This park is located northeast of Lake Ontario on the St. Lawrence River. Take Route 12E to park, 4 miles east of Cape Vincent. In addition to tent and trailer campsites, the park has boat docks, a playground and picnic areas.

Canoe-Picnic Point State Park: Located on Grindstone Island.  You can only reach the island by boat.  However, the experience of camping and/or living on your boat will provide an enjoyable holiday.   Just south of the camping area is Picnic Point, a picnic ground with a beautiful picnic gazebo, which is dedicated to the memory of Sissy Danforth, the former director of the Thousand Islands Land Trust. This pavilion is used by fishing guides for traditional "shore dinners".   Connecting Conoe and Picnic Point is the Thousand Islands Land Trust Nature Trial

Cedar Point State Park: This Park was given the distinction of being named: "Amazing Spot in 2008".  The park is located on Route 12E, 6 miles west of Clayton. It is one of the oldest state parks in New York.

Dewolf Point State Park:  Located on Wellesley Island, this park has cabins for rent, a camping area, a stone gazebo and dockage for boats.  It is located on the Lake of the Isles, which is surrounded by Wellesley Island in the US and Canada's Hill Island. 

Grass Point State Park: This park is on a point of land that projects into the American Channel of the St. Lawrence River Seaway.  The Park is popular for campers and day use. This park is located between the Thousand Islands Bridge and Clayton.

Keewaydin State Park:  This park has over 40 campsites as well as a swimming pool and picnic areas.  It was named as a 2008 Top 100 Family Campground. It is located one mile west of Alexandria Bay.

Kring Point State Park: is located in Goose Bay.  There are more than 100 campsites and they boast that "virtually every cabin and campsite has a river or bay view."

Mary Island State Park: This is another State Park that is only accessible by boat.  The Park comprises 12 heavily-wooded acres with a dozen waterfront campsites. Camper's boats may be beached or moored near campsites.

Wellesley Island State Park: This is the largest of the New York State Parks in the region.  One of the main attractions of the park is the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center, sits on a pristine 600 acre peninsula of Wellesley Island. The Nature Center provides educational and recreational programs for all ages. One special feature at the nature center is the 1/4 mile handicapped trail that includes access to picnic tables and the seasonal butterfly house.

St. Lawrence County

Cedar Island: Cedar Island State Park takes up half of Cedar Island in Chippewa Bay.  The park's campsites are lightly-wooded, with a day-use area and picnic pavilion nearby.  This is another Park that is located on an island and therefore requires transportation.

Jacques Cartier is located on Route 12, 3 miles west of Morristown. Jacques Cartier State Park has a sheltered bay protecting the sandy swimming beach and campers dock.  The park's large open lawns encourage games and picnics; a playground and another picnic ground, this one forested, are nearby.

Note:  the New York State Park system have a number of housekeeping cottages available by the New York State reservation system.  These cabins, which vary in size from two or three bedrooms, are described as having " all the comforts of home, including a bathroom with shower, kitchen with refrigerator and stove, bedding, cooking utensils, dishes, glassware, silverware, etc." Outside each vacation rental is a picnic table and a grill for meals and evening campfires.  (Reservations: 1 800-456-2267)
